About us

Department of Environment was after the creation of Gombe State under the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as a department, but in 1999 the department of Environment was moved to ministry of Water Resources and Environment until 2013 when the ministry of Environment and Forest Resources was established. The primary responsibility of the ministry is the implementation of Gully Erosion Control project; conduct of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); Climate Change policies and programs; Environmental education/Advocacy and Enforcement of Environmental Laws as well as Pollution Control and Waste Management.

The conservation of all gazette Forest reserves in the state to make sure that all indigenous plant species have not gone into extinction; afforestation program in all the desert frontline LGAs as well as other LGAs of the state for the purpose of creating carbon sink to ameliorate the effect of climate change are also part of the ministry’s mandate. The ministry has also as part of it responsibility the management of wildlife in the state in order to reduce human-wild animal conflict as well as tourism development in the state for the benefit of the present and future generation.
